Our approach keeps our patients smiling and happy to return for their next visit

Children’s dentistry

We take care of children’s teeth from infancy through their toddler and childhood years, all the way to adolescence. Our gentle approach keeps our youngest patients smiling and happy to return for their next visit. It helps build the lifelong habit of maintaining your oral health through home practices and re-enforces the importance of regular visits to the dentist.

Children’s Fillings

Dental fillings in children’s teeth are most commonly needed due to tooth decay. There is an increasing prevalence of dental decay in children due to the greater access and hidden sugar in their diet. The treatment involves the placement of tooth-coloured filling material.

Fissure Sealants

A fissure sealant is used to prevent tooth decay in adult permanent teeth. Back teeth have fissures (grooves) on their biting surfaces and some front teeth have cingulum pits. It is these pits and fissures which are most vulnerable to tooth decay because food and bacteria stick in them. They are difficult to clean and are in hard-to-clean areas. The bristles of a toothbrush are simply too big to get into the grooves of the teeth.

A fissure sealant is where a dental material is placed in these pits and fissures to fill them in and seal them, creating a smooth surface which is easy to clean. They are mainly used in children who are at higher risk of tooth decay or have extremely deep and fissured teeth and are usually placed as soon as the adult molar teeth come through.

Children’s Preventative Treatment and Education

Teaching your children how to properly care for their teeth can set them up for a lifetime of good habits. This includes advice on brushing, flossing and diet.

We recommend that children have regular check-ups so dental issues like tooth decay can be spotted and managed early.

It is important to maintain baby teeth. Even though they will eventually fall out, they serve many important functions. They help with chewing, speech, and smiling. They also hold space in the jaws for permanent teeth that are growing under the gums.
